Overview

On January 7th and 8th 2026, Sinclar delivered contaminated gasoline to several gas stations across Colorado, including locations operated by King Soopers, Costco, and Murphy Express. Many drivers who filled up during this time quickly began experiencing serious vehicle issues, often without warning.

Customers reported that their cars stopped functioning which meant the only option was towing their vehicle to the dealership or repair shop. Once the vehicles made it to the repair shops, it became clear that there would be hundreds if not thousands of dollars worth of repairs necessary due to contaminated gasoline.

How Contaminated Gas Can Damage Your Vehicle

Fuel contamination is not a minor problem. Even one tank of bad gasoline can cause major damage to the engine. Drivers reported issues such as fouled spark plugs, clogged fuel injectors, damaged fuel pumps, and even harm to oxygen sensors and catalytic converters.

These repairs are often expensive, commonly exceeding $800, and in more severe cases, the total cost can climb into the thousands. Even worse, some damage may not fully appear until weeks later. This leaves drivers with ongoing mechanical problems long after the initial issues were detected.

Be Careful before Accepting a Voucher or Signing Anything

Many customers affected by the Sinclair gasoline contamination were offered vouchers, partial reimbursements, or other forms of compensation. While this may seem helpful in the short term, it is important to understand what may come with these offers of money and refunds.

In some cases, gas stations or supplies may ask for a signature on a release or waiver in order to pay out the reimbursement. Signing that type of document could mean giving up your right to pursue future claims. This means that even if your vehicle requires additional repairs as the damage turns out to be more extensive than originally diagnosed, you would not be able to pursue those claims.

Do I have a Case?

The best way to determine whether you may have a valid claim is to speak directly with an experienced attorney. A lawyer can review the details of your situation, including where you purchased gas, what repairs were required, and whether you were asked to sign any paperwork that could affect your rights.
