Stephen D. Ochs was born in Lawrence, Kansas. He was raised in Colorado Springs, graduated from Wasson High School, attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and admitted to the University of Colorado School of Medicine after three years. After receiving his medical degree, he continued with one year of general surgery residency followed by anesthesiology residency at University of Colorado Hospitals Denver. He completed anesthesia residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with advanced training in pediatric cardiac anesthesia. He co-founded and operated the first ambulatory surgery center in Colorado Springs.

He enjoyed full board certification privileges and past department chair at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. He was an attending clinical professor of anesthesiology at both the University of Colorado Hospital and Denver General Hospital. Later in his anesthesia clinical career of 40 years, he attended the University of Denver Sturm School of Law and the D.U. Daniels School of Business in the night programs receiving both his J.D. and M.B.A. in four years. His legal practice has consisted of plaintiff medical malpractice, medical product/drug class action and mass tort litigation including trials, settlements and successful mediations in multiple states and federal jurisdictions.

He has been married for 53 years with three adult children and eight grandchildren. His interests include: his grandchildren located in Utah, Colorado and Wyoming, travel, and fly fishing.
