Colorado Department of Transportation simulates motorcycle injuries when a rider doesn’t wear motorcycle gear

The Colorado Department of Transportation released a graphic video that depicts the injuries that a rider could expect if they are involved in a motorcycle accident without wearing any gear. In the video a rider is done up with theatrical make-up to show a few of the common injuries when someone is hurt in a motorcycle accident. If this were a real accident, it’s advisable to consult a motorcycle accident lawyer in Colorado.

The injuries portrayed in the video are shattered orbital bone, which can cause possible permanent vision impairment, severe abrasions, which can cause permanent scarring. Broken bones, severed body parts are other injuries that are seen by trauma surgeons after a motorcycle accident. The most severe, and most common injuries are traumatic brain injuries (TBI), from riding without a helmet.

The video does not discourage riding motorcycles, but intends to educate riders of the possible injuries that can be prevented by wearing motorcycle gear whenever you ride. Some of the recommended gear that should be worn to prevent injury include:

  • Helmet
  • Gloves
  • Jacket/Trousers
  • Eye Protection
  • Footwear
