Anna N. Martinez

“Personal injury is often referred to as the “blood and guts” of law practice. It involves proving injuries, understanding not just what the law requires in terms of proof, but also presenting information about medicine, biomechanics, and accident reconstruction. I enjoy seeing a case from beginning to end and giving some hope and resolution to clients who have been injured.”

Anna N. Martinez, a native Coloradoan with roots in the San Luis Valley, is a bilingual trial lawyer who is passionate about representing Spanish speaking clients. Ms. Martinez’s trial experience includes litigation at the county and district court level, as well as appeals before the Court of Appeals and Colorado Supreme Court. She earned her J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2005 with a Certificate in Federal Indian Law. She received in 2002 her B.A. from Columbia University in the City of New York. Ms. Martinez is licensed to practice before the state and federal courts of Colorado and New Mexico.

Before joining Franklin D. Azar & Associates, P.C., Ms. Martinez worked at a litigation boutique, Ogborn Mihm, LLP, where she practiced primarily in the areas of legal malpractice, business torts, and personal injury. After graduating from law school, she clerked for the Honorable Chief Justice Mary Mullarkey of the Colorado Supreme Court. She became a part of Franklin D. Azar & Associates, P.C. in February 2016.

A major case, Ms. Martinez was a part of was, Derek Stringer v. Eli Daniel, Case No. 2017CV30088. Judge Kopcow. Mr. Stringer was struck by a drunk driver as he was hauling hazardous materials to an oil well site. In the course of pulling his semi off the road, he was exposed to a rare fungus as he inhaled dirt, fleeing from the vehicle to safety. He was infected by the fungus and suffered necrotic pneumonia. The jury returned a Plaintiff’s verdict for $540,000.00. With interest and costs, we collected over $725,000 for this client. Jury trial: February 26-29, 2018.

Ms. Martinez is actively involved in the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, Spanish Speaking Lawyers Committee, and the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association. In addition to her trial practice, Anna is an author for two CLE in Colorado publications entitled “Lawyers’ Professional Liability in Colorado: Preventing Legal Malpractice and Disciplinary Actions,” and “Colorado Courtroom Handbook.” She has also published legal articles in Trial Talk, the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association’s monthly publication; the Denver University Online Law Review; and, the Colorado Bar Association’s magazine, The Colorado Lawyer.

Anna enjoys gardening, cooking but most importantly spending time with her family. She is very interested in the judiciary, its function in society, and the process by which the state’s judges are chosen and retained. She has been involved and has led the judicial committees of both the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association and the Colorado Women’s Bar Association. Anna was also honored to serve as a member of the Federal Magistrate Judge Selection Panel.
