Dangers of Drowsy Driving

HOW DANGEROUS IS DROWSY DRIVING? We’ve all been there. The road stretches monotonously ahead, and drowsiness is settling into your bones like a heavy fog. Your eyelids sag. Your head nods. If you don’t do something about it, you’re going to fall asleep at the wheel — and be in for a rude awakening, if you wake up at all. Drowsy driving is both more common and more dangerous than most people realize.  In fact, it may be one of the leading killers on the road, second only to driving drunk. Here’s what you need to know to help stay alert behind...

Recent Automobile Defect Cases

recent car defects

Cars are getting smarter, packed with more sophisticated technology, every year. But that doesn’t mean they are free from potentially dangerous defects. According to a recent article from 24/7 Wall St., seven of the 14 biggest auto recalls of all time have come in the last decade; in 2016, the number of recalls reached a record high. A defect can be as basic as a faulty seat-belt locking mechanism or as baffling as a sudden surge in acceleration. It can be a flaw in the manufacturer’s design or in a product from another supplier, such as an airbag that fails to deploy...

Fatal Semi Accident on C-470 and the Lessons of Tire Maintenance

Truck tire safety

Right before the Labor-Day weekend, a fatal accident occurred on C-470, involving a semi-truck and a Nissan Pathfinder. The truck was driving on the eastbound lane on C-470 with a full load of sand and dirt. Suddenly the Semi’s left front tire blew out. As a result, the driver lost control, crossed the median, and crashed into the Nissan Pathfinder in the westbound lane. The truck kept going through the concrete shoulder barrier, and off a 30-foot embankment finally stopping on the bike path. When first responders arrived on the scene, both vehicles were engulfed in flames . According to the West...

Drunken Driving, Speeding Suspected in Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Colorado Springs

drunk driving suspected in fatal motorcycle crash

A 35-year-old motorcyclist was killed in Colorado Springs on September 1, following a horrific crash with a pickup truck. A grim reminder of how vulnerable motorcycle riders are to the actions of other motorists on the road — especially if those actions involve alcohol, excessive speed, or other reckless behavior. Colorado Springs police say that Christopher Larkin was headed southbound on North Academy Boulevard when his motorcycle was rear-ended by a pickup truck. While the truck dragged his bike more than 600 feet along Academy, Larkin was thrown into the road and hit by an oncoming minivan. He died at the...

Colorado Springs Fatal Accident – Driver Ran a Red Light

June through August is known as the most dangerous time of the year for fatal traffic accidents in Colorado. Unfortunately, the recent accident statistics seem to confirm this as well. According to the investigation, a pickup truck Chevy Silverado ran a red light and crashed into another pickup truck, a Dodge Ram pulling a camper. What to Expect in Court for A Car Accident?

car accident court process

Few things in life are as jarring as a car accident. But for some people, the experience of getting involved in the legal system after an accident can be almost as unnerving. Most of us don’t know what to expect if the case ends up “going to court.” Fortunately, most accident cases don’t end up in a courtroom. The parties, their attorneys, and their insurance companies are able to reach a resolution without a lawsuit ever being filed — and even if the case does result in litigation, the matter is often settled before trial, saving time and expense for everyone...

Vail Pass Rollover Accident on I-70

police rushing to accident

It’s been a tough summer on I-70. On July 20th, a semi-truck caught fire on East Bound I-70 at Georgetown. Since the location of the fire was after a long downhill slope, it’s possible that the trucks brakes caught fire while descending. Luckily there were no injuries involved. If you drive a semi, please remember to adjust your brakes before attempting to descend I-70. Just one week after, we are writing about another truck accident on I-70, injuring five people, including children. What Happened? According to the Colorado State Patrol, a semi-truck was coming Westbound down Vail Pass when it collided with a Ford...

What To Do If You Are Injured In A Bus Accident?

bus accident article

Statistically, bus accidents happen far less frequently than many other kinds of traffic incidents. But that’s little consolation if you happen to be a passenger on a bus when a crash does occur. In fact, because of the way buses are configured, a bus accident can produce more serious injuries than if you were a passenger in a car. Buses typically lack seat belts and air bags. They have a higher center of gravity and are more prone to rollover crashes than other forms of transportation. Dealing with the aftermath of a bus injury can also present complex legal challenges; here are...

What Did We Learn from the i-70 Truck Crash?

i70-truck-crash

The fiery, horrific images made national news. On April 25, 2019, traffic stalled along I-70 west of Denver became the scene of an inferno as a seemingly out-of-control semi-trailer crashed into the line of cars and trucks at high speed, causing four deaths and numerous injuries. The 23-year-old driver of the semi, Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos, has been charged with four counts of vehicular homicide and dozens of counts of assault and attempted assault. Investigators say he told them that his brakes had failed on the steep descent into the metro area from the mountains and that he closed his eyes, bracing...
