Colorado Springs Fatal Accident – Driver Ran a Red Light

June through August is known as the most dangerous time of the year for fatal traffic accidents in Colorado. Unfortunately, the recent accident statistics seem to confirm this as well. On Sunday (8/4), Colorado Springs police are investigating a fatal crash at I-25/Cimarron under the bridge. According to the investigation, a pickup truck Chevy Silverado ran a red light and crashed into another pickup truck, a Dodge Ram pulling a camper. The Chevy driver was driving west on Cimarron, and the Dodge Ram driver was on its way to northbound I-25. The crash knocked the camper and one of the trucks off...

What to Expect in Court for A Car Accident?

car accident court process

Few things in life are as jarring as a car accident. But for some people, the experience of getting involved in the legal system after an accident can be almost as unnerving. Most of us don’t know what to expect if the case ends up “going to court.” Fortunately, most accident cases don’t end up in a courtroom. The parties, their attorneys, and their insurance companies are able to reach a resolution without a lawsuit ever being filed — and even if the case does result in litigation, the matter is often settled before trial, saving time and expense for everyone...

Summer Road Trip Safety Checklist

colorado road trip safety tips

“’Tis a privilege to live in Colorado.” – Frederick G. Bonfils It’s been more than a century since Frederick G. Bonfils, one of the founders of the Denver Post, coined that phrase. The sentiment still holds true today — particularly in summer, when the state’s residents take to the roads to explore its high mountains, raft its rivers, surf its sand dunes, sample its county fairs, ogle its oddities, and more. Summer road trips can be the perfect antidote to the daily grind. They can also be a bit of a grind themselves, a series of misadventures involving too much traffic, too...

Vail Pass Rollover Accident on I-70

police rushing to accident

It’s been a tough summer on I-70. On July 20th, a semi-truck caught fire on East Bound I-70 at Georgetown. Since the location of the fire was after a long downhill slope, it’s possible that the trucks brakes caught fire while descending. Luckily there were no injuries involved. If you drive a semi, please remember to adjust your brakes before attempting to descend I-70. Just one week after, we are writing about another truck accident on I-70, injuring five people, including children. What Happened? According to the Colorado State Patrol, a semi-truck was coming Westbound down Vail Pass when it collided with a Ford...

Mountain Driving Tips Learned from the I-70 Semi Fire Accident

i 70 truck fire near georgetown cleanup

The I-70 truck Fire Accident The recent heatwave has driven many (more than 152,000) to the mountains during the weekend. If you were up near Georgetown on Saturday, 7/19, you might have seen the smoke from I-70, not caused by the heatwave, but a fire from a semi-truck, loaded with watermelon. The semi cargo truck fire was reported by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) right before noon on Saturday. Officials shortly updated in a Tweet that a single lane is open for traffic, and long delays should be expected. Fortunately, nobody was injured during the fire, and most of the watermelon cargo...

What Rights Do Passengers Have in A Car Accident?

passenger-in-a-car-accident

Almost nothing can ruin your day or your life faster than a car accident. Even in the best of cases, with minor or no injuries involved, a car crash can be a deeply unsettling and confusing event. There’s damage to assess, information to exchange, police and insurance companies to contact, and sometimes complicated legal issues to resolve. The whole experience can be even more upsetting if you’re a passenger rather than one of the drivers involved. Though no fault of your own, you may have suffered injuries or property damage. How do you recover your losses? What happens if you have...

Who Is at Fault in a Multi-Car, Rear End Collision?

many cars

We’ve all seen them on the nightly news, those “chain reaction” wrecks on a busy highway that involve multiple vehicles crashing into each other. If you’re lucky, you’ve never actually been in one. Such collisions can be deadly. Even if you emerge relatively unhurt, determining who’s at fault for the damages caused can be an extremely complicated process. Every case is different, but there are some common-sense considerations involved in fixing liability in multi-car, rear-end crashes — and some steps you can take that will increase your chances of avoiding such a pileup. FACTORS INVOLVED IN REAR-END CRASHES In a high percentage of...

Distracted Driving, Part 3: Is Technology the Problem or the Answer?

In the previous installments of our series on distracted driving, we examined the dangers involved in texting while driving and some of the other common forms of hazardous distractions, including eating, smoking, and adjusting climate and audio controls and other devices, that account for thousands of accident fatalities every year. Now it’s time to consider a possible solution, courtesy of the major advances that have been made in recent years in auto safety technology. As our cars get smarter, is there a chance they could actually help save us from dumb driving behavior? Granted, it’s a strange question. Many would contend that...
