THE MAIN CAUSES OF TEENAGE CAR ACCIDENTS – AND HOW TO PREVENT THEM

There are plenty of jokes made by nervous parents when there’s a new driver in the household, but the statistics for car accidents involving teens are no joke. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the United States, claiming six victims aged 16-19 every day. Many of those deaths are preventable, and there are solid strategies for educating teen drivers to improve their safety for years to come. JOINT REPLACEMENT SURGERY: STUDIES QUESTION COST, NECESSITY

knee replacement x-ray

We live in a society that prizes fitness, and more Americans are pursuing active lifestyles later in life than ever before. That, in turn, has made joint replacement surgery an increasingly attractive — and common — procedure for weekend warriors who are battling arthritic knees and stiff hips. According to a recent Journal of the American Medical Association article, in 2014 more than half a million hip replacement and 723,000 knee replacement surgeries were performed in the United States, at an estimated cost of $20 billion. Americans are getting artificial joints implanted at a significantly higher rate than other countries, and...

ROUNDUP CANCER LAWSUIT – HERBICIDE AND BREAKFAST CEREAL: CAUSE FOR ALARM?

Oats in the field

When it comes to our food supply, we live in an age of uncertainty. News reports tell us of outbreaks of contaminants at favorite restaurants, recalls at the supermarket, new studies that indicate some “miracle” foods aren’t as beneficial as we thought, or competing claims about whether certain trusted, brand-name products help us or hurt us in our quest for healthy eating. The flood of conflicting information makes it hard to keep up — and might even leave you feeling overwhelmed. But certain developments deserve more attention. Spurred on by such news, a stampede of hopefuls have plunged into the cryptocurrency markets in the past two years, hoping to make a killing, even if they don’t know the difference between a blockchain and a blockbuster. Unfortunately, those who belatedly joined the feeding frenzy have seen...

A federal judge has denied a motion to dismiss a lawsuit that claims financial services giant Nationwide Insurance Company is charging excessive fees for recordkeeping for 401(k) plans. The lawsuit, filed in June 2017 by Denver law firm Franklin D. Azar & Associates, alleges that Nationwide charged the Andrus Wagstaff, PC 401(k) plan and other similarly situated 401(k) plans excessive fees for recordkeeping and other services, resulting in charges as high as $625 per participant in 2014 and $500 per participant in 2015. The lawsuit alleges that those fees are almost ten times the reasonable charge for recordkeeping and other services,...

WHEN TO GET AN ATTORNEY FOR A CAR ACCIDENT

night driving

Car crashes can be loud, scary, and even life-altering events. In addition to the trauma of the incident itself, there’s all the paperwork involved in dealing with the police and insurance companies, the hassle of arranging for repairs and alternate transportation, and various other ways that even a “minor” accident can disrupt your routine and plans. And beyond the more mundane aspects of the accident and its aftermath looms a larger question: Should I be talking to a lawyer about what just happened? Of course, not every traffic incident requires the services of an attorney. But it’s a question that should...
